Seneca Aspen. 177 PCP/Multipump Air Rifle with4x32 Scope

  

177 PCP/Multipump Air Rifle w/4x32 Scope. Only made a few years. PyramydAIR & Hard Air magazine both have good write ups of the rifle. And there are YT vids also. Pump lever lock so rifle can be carried by pump handle.

Shrouded (but no baffles) barrel. What's in the box. 3 magazines (one of which does NOT work & is paint marked accordingly but Air Venturi Avenger and Avenge-X models use the same magazines so they're still available). 4x32 scope w/dovetail rings basic scope & for some reason it's clear for me without my glasses [can't see far] which is unusual. Used only once in 2019 before being stored until recently when I went over it to find out the condition of the o-rings (very bad) & to shot test it. The testing is NOT much help I don't think since the o-rings are/were in such bad shape but I'll provide the results below anyway. O-ring condition judged from externally readily accessible o-rings. Protective cap for pre-pressurized air chamber just below the end of the barrel. Replaced with generic nitrile o-ring.

And the two o-rings on the breech probe. Replaced with the two extras provided with the rifle. I think they might be size 3 o-rings. In one of the pics I've highlighted with a red circle where I attempted to remove a bit of rust?

From the safety lever & removed some of the chrome? In another pic I've circled where I've replaced the o-ring with a standard nitrile o-ring. And in another pic I've circled where I replaced the breech probe o-rings with the replacements included in the box. And from the failure to maintain pressure.

Number of pumps to bring it up to pressure. I seem to remember 25 pumps/1000PSI from one of the articles I've read.

It seems to be holding pressure a bit better as time goes on, but the internal o-rings still need replacing. The barrel breech o-ring for one. But there are a number of others as well.

I don't think the original o-rings were good quality to begin with so replacing them with high quality o-rings would go a long way to improving performance & reducing maintenance. I'd suggest "Ultra-Strength Oil- and Abrasion-Resistant Polyurethane O-Rings" from McMaster-Carr for the more critical o-rings. Spendy but worth it in the long run.

NOTE: Both chronys were within a few FPS of each other for all the shots that I took. Very accurate at just over 10 yards (just under 10 meters) as the included pic will attest to. 5 shot group using the RWS Supermag 9.3gr pellet using the included 4x32 scope. Believe it or not, I shot that group before'discovering' that the scope was clear without my glasses.
